Injunction issued to prevent Sri Lanka Cricket elections from being held

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The court of appeal issued an injunction order preventing Sri Lanka cricket elections from being held tomorrow (May 31) as scheduled. The order was issued based on a petition filed by Nishantha Ranatunga. President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Padman Surasena and Justice Arjuna Obeysekara decided to reconsider the petition on the 14th of next month. Therefore the injunction order will be in effect until the 14th of next month.   According to the Petitioner Nishantha Ranathunga, he considers this as a move towards the betterment of the sport. He added that the requests were made according to the law of the country and the Sports Law, so, in 14 days they will get another decision. Attempts made by Sports 1st to contact candidates contesting for the post of SLC President, Thilanga Sumathipala, and Jayantha Darmadasa, were futile. Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Cricket Ashley De Silva said the court's decision has not been officially communicated to him adding, a communique would be issued after receiving full details of the court order.
