COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Department of Irrigation says the water levels in tanks that come under its purview have not drastically risen despite the country experiencing heavy showers.
Director of the Water Management Unit at the Department of Irrigation, Wasantha Bandara Palugaswewa, said the previous water level of 40% was only increased by another 9%.
He added even though more than 10 tanks have reached the spill level, the overall water level of the tanks remains low.
The overall water level of the Mahaweli reservoirs have increased up to 80%.
