COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Kandy district conference of the Punarudaya or Renaissance Movement, was held at the Kandy Postal Department Auditorium today (May 27). Speaking at the event senior journalist Victor Ivan commented on the current state of the country. Victor Ivan says that the parliament, Presidents, judiciary and the entire state machinery is rotten. He added that there are only institutions which are a burden on the people. According to Ivan,  politicians cannot change the path the country is on adding that politicians are past their sell-by date. Victor Ivan also said, the most dangerous issue is the intellectual bankruptcy of Sri Lanka's leaders and intellectuals and he explained several examples of this. He highlighted the 19th amendment to the constitution as once such failure, given that no one has the power to dissolve parliament even during an emergency. He noted that only the people can bring about the change required by the country.
