Over 125,000 affected by adverse weather

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) announced the number of people affected by the inclement weather has risen to 125,954. Assistant Director of the DMC, Pradeep Kodippili, said 13 people have died so far from incidents related to the adverse weather. 54,205 displaced people have been sheltered in 215 camps as 19 districts were badly affected by the Inclement weather. Speaking at a media briefing, Director General of the Department of Meteorology, Sarath Premalal, said highest rainfall was reported from Ratnapura which is 33.4mm. He went on to say rain can be expected in the South-western part of the country and Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western Provinces and in Jaffna, Mannar and Mullaitivu Districts. Meanwhile, it was reported that the Kaduwela bridge located on the Kaduwela - Biyagama road will be closed until 6 a.m. tomorrow (May 25).
