COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Office of Missing Persons will begin recording statements from the general public in the Matara District today (May 19). Chairman of the Office, Attorney-at-law Saliya Peiris, said the activities in this regard will begin at the Matara District Secretariat from 9:30 a.m. Peiris said officials will travel to the districts of Trincomalee, Mullaitivu, Kandy, Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Batticaloa and Ampara in the coming weeks, for this purpose. Attorney-at-law Saliya Peiris said opinions of the general public are an important aspect in formulating proposals for the future course of action. On 28th of February 2018, after the Act with regard to the establishment of the Office of Missing Persons was passed in 2016, President Maithripala Sirisena appointed a seven-member board of officials for the Office of Missing Persons.
