COLOMBO (News 1st) – The supply of electricity to Colombo and several other areas was disrupted after the Biyagama – Pannipitiya transmission cable experienced a technical failure.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Sulakshana Jayawardena, said at present the supply of electricity via Sri Jayawardenepura, Ratmalana, Dehiwala and Pannipitiya grid stations have been suspended.
A 220-gigawatt power grid experienced a failure at 07:20 a.m. today (May 15). Sulakshana Jayawardena said operations are underway to restore the supply of power.
