Expat couple provides relief to residents of Vilachchiya

Colombo (News1st) - A recent episode of the "Hadagasma" program on News1st highlighted the plight of the people living in Vilachchiya, Anuradhapura. The area residents were destitute, in hunger and were unable to cultivate their lands due to the lack of water. A group of philanthropists who witnessed their plight through News1st arrived in Vilachchiya on Saturday (May 12th) to provide some relief to the residents. Mr and Mrs Kariyawasan, a Sri Lankan Couple living in Australia who watched the Hadagasma program together with their relatives here at home visited the YAYA 06 and YAYA 07 villages in Vilachchiya. Parcels containing dry rations were gifted to 327 families in these villages and each parcel was valued at 3000 rupees.
