News 1st – UPFA Parliamentarian, S.B. Dissanayake, who was among the Parliamentary group to join the Opposition, made a statement in Parliament today (May 9).
During this discussion, the position of the deputy speaker which is currently vacant after Thilanaga Sumathipala’s resignation was brought into question. MP Dissanayake states that Thilanga Sumathipala could remain as the deputy speaker if the party wants it highlighting that there have been instances of members of the opposition occupying the posts of Speaker as well as Deputy Speaker.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya responding to this stated that he will inform the President and Prime Minister and take relevant measures.
