COLOMBO (News 1st) – Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today (May 9) had to correct his announcement to Parliament on the Supreme Court’s determination on the National Audit Bill.
As Parliament convened, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya announced that the Supreme Court had determined that the National Audit Bill is not in accordance with the Constitution.
However, during the Parliamentary debate, the Speaker corrected his first statement saying, what he said was that the Supreme Court had determined the Bill is in accordance with the Constitution and that it hadn’t been heard properly.
Meanwhile, a Supplementary Estimate of 18,034 million rupees was presented in Parliament today. The Supplementary estimate was presented by Chief Government Whip, Minister Gayantha Karunatileka to cover government allowances, salaries and travel expenses incurred during a one month period.
A sum of 1250 million rupees has been allocated for the Mahapola Fund.
