COLOMBO (News 1st) – Being prepared is key during a flood or any natural disaster. With this in mind over the past three days Gammadda joined hands with a number of other stakeholders to create awareness on disaster preparedness in a number of areas which have previously been affected by natural disasters such as flooding.
The final day’s program was organised in the Kalutara District with the assistance of the Asia-Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management, John Keells Holdings, Nations Trust Bank, the respective District Secretariats and Pradeshiya Sabhas as well as the Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka.
The program was conducted today centering the Panapitiya, Thebuwana and Madurawala areas in the Kalutara District. The first program to create awareness on pre-flood preparedness was held today at the Galpatha Purana Viharaya in Panapitiya.
Those who attended the workshop were educated through practical exercises on safety measures and lifesaving procedures at times of a flood.
The final workshop was conducted at the Madurawala Ampitigala Sri Sumangalaramaya in Kalutara. A group including civil society representatives and state sector officials were present for this program.
