Gunfight between security forces and militants in Indian Kashmir

REUTERS - A gunfight broke out between security forces and holed up militants today (May 06) in the Turkwangam area of Shopian district of Indian Kashmir. The encounter broke out after security forces launched a search operation in the area over specific inputs about the presence of militants. Senior Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police (SSP) of Shopian district, Shailendra Mishra said that the militants were asked to surrender via public announcement before moving on with the clash but haven't received any response. Foreign media reports that two soldiers have sustained injuries in the encounter, however, SSP Mishra said that no information on the number of militants holed up could be given at the moment. Three militants were killed and four security personnel were injured in an encounter in Chattabal area of Srinagar city yesterday (May 05).
