COLOMBO (News 1st) – Minister Navin Dissanayake commented on the party’s restructuring process after engaging in religious observances at the Pelanwattha Purana Viharaya yesterday (April 29).

The Minister said that UNP backbenchers had suggested holding an election for all the positions in the party but noted that there was no challenge for the positions held by Minister Sajith Premadasa or himself. Further, he stated that there were minor changes to some of the positions.

While recalling that he himself lead battles from within the party to change the leadership of the UNP, the Minister conceded that it is very difficult to do so with the current constitution of the party.  Minster Dissanayake was hopefull that the leader of the UNP would eventually hand over leadership of the party to the second tier.
