REUTERS – U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his son Prince Khalid Bin Salman, the Saudi Ambassador to the United States, today (April 29) in an effort to muster support for U.S. plans for new sanctions against Iran.
The visit to Riyadh comes just days after Pompeo was sworn-in, with President Donald Trump set to decide whether to pull out of the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran that is still supported by European powers.
Trump has called it the “worst deal ever” and threatened to re-impose sanctions unless Britain, France, and Germany agree to fix it. Resuming sanctions would likely kill the deal.
