COLOMBO (News 1st) - Members of the United National Party have also begun to scrutinize the party's recent reforms. State Minister of Finance Eran Wickremeratne stated that a majority of the UNPers believe the leadership should be appointed through an election. He noted that an election should be held to appoint the leader, deputy leader and assistant leader at the same time. While accepting that this is a restructure the state minister questioned whether this was the restructure that the people wanted? Meanwhile, Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam who was appointed as the UNP's new General Secretary, paid homage to the Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic today. Speaking to the media after meeting with the mahanayake theors, the minister said that the changes in the party were made by members of the working committee and MPs who were elected by hundreds of thousands of voters in this country. Responding to a question raised by a journalist Minister Kariyawaam noted that the UNP would be fielding Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as it's candidate for the next presidential election. Deputy Minister of Transport, Ashok Abeysinghe, stated that grassroots level members had called for a complete restructuring of the party and that it did not happen. He also expressed disappointment regarding the UNP's decision to hold just a meeting instead of a massive rally on May Day while being in power.පේක්ෂකයෙක්ද?--   https://www.facebook.com/NewsfirstSL/videos/1928582180535364/
