Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he will pay $4.5m (£3.2m) to cover some of the lapsed US commitments to the Paris climate accord. He announced on CBS’ that his personal donation would contribute to meeting America’s commitment to the pact. He said he had a responsibility to help improve the environment because of President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the deal. Trump last year (2017), pulled the US out of the deal, which was signed by Barack Obama, making the US the only country opposed to the Paris climate accord. The Paris Agreement builds upon the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and for the first time brings all nations into a common cause to undertake ambitious efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects, with enhanced support to assist developing countries to do so.
