COLOMBO (News 1st) – Two members of the same family died earlier today (April 21) after being washed away by a strong current in Beruwala. According to the Police, the two victims were visiting the Beruwala Lighthouse with a group of 11 people this morning.
The victims’ bodies are currently lying at the Beruwala Hospital and police have confirmed that the victims were residents of Colombo 14, aged 24 and 27.
Earlier, the Disaster Management Center said seas off the coasts of Puttalam, Negombo, Colombo, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota and Batticaloa will be rough from tonight onwards, till the 23rd of this month.
Assistant Director of the DMC, Pradeep Kodippilli urged the fishing communities in the areas to refrain from setting out to sea during this period.
