Japan’s most senior finance ministry bureaucrat has resigned over allegations of sexual misconduct, in what is being described as the country’s #MeToo moment. Junichi Fukuda resigned on Wednesday (April 18), but denies the allegations. Fukuda said he would quit after a weekly magazine published allegations he had sexually harassed a female reporter. The publication also released an audio clip which it says is the voice of the bureaucrat saying: "Can I give you a hug?" and "Can I touch your breasts?" Fukuda has threatened to sue the magazine, which originally reported the accusations.
