Chinese authorities state that a man has threatened an airline crew using a fountain pen, leading to a diversion of an Air China flight yesterday (April 16).

According to the Police, the man was identified as Xu (41), was taken into custody and is reportedly has a history of mental illness. The Flight Air China CA1350, which was heading to Beijing from Changsha had to make an emergency landing in the Henan province.

A passenger described being awoken by a scream coming from the front of the plane and that “nobody knew what was going on”.

The passenger stated that looking out the window they saw many police cars, ambulances and fire engines parked outside the plane as it was landing in Zhengzhou.

Reports state that no passengers or crew members were harmed during the incident.
