University Non Academic staff ready to quit strike

COLOMBO (News 1st) – The University Joint Trade Unions Alliance says that a circular containing matters agreed upon during talks with the Higher Education Minister, is to be issued today (April 9th).

Co-President of the Union, Edward Malwattage said the unions would call off their strike action as soon as the circular is issued. Talks were held between officials of the Ministry of Higher Education and the striking workers on the 2nd of this month. Malwattage notes that  several agreements were reached during these talks.

According to Minister of Higher Education & Highways, Kabir Hashim they have held talks regarding the demands made by non-academic staff at universities.

The non academic staff trade unions have warned that if proper solutions are not provided they are preparing to hold demonstrations outside all universities and a series of demonstrations in Colombo.
