COLOMBO (News 1st) – The University Trade Union Joint Committee has announced that officials of the Ministry of Higher Education have assured to provide a solution for their issues by tomorrow (April 9th).
Co-Chairman of the committee, Edward Malwattage said the trade union action is expected to be called off immediately after obtaining a favorable solution for their demands.
More than 15,000 non-academic University staff support the trade union action which was first launched on 27th February. Their demands include a solution to issues pertaining to their monthly allowance, based on an agreement which was reached in 2016.
The strike which entered it’s 41st day has affected the operations of 15 state universities and higher education institutes which are governed by the University Grants Commission.
