COLOMBO (News 1st) - It has been 21 days since the university non-academic staff launched a strike action.
The Ministry of Higher Education, issuing a communique noted that authorities are hoping to provide a fair solution to their demands today.
The communique notes that State Minister Mohan Lal Grero will conduct discussions with all relevant parties under the instructions of Subject Minister Kabir Hashim, and will provide a solution to their demands.
Activities at state universities have come to a complete standstill as a result of the strike action.
A special discussion regarding this issue was held at the University Grants Commission, yesterday (March 19).
Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Prof. Mohan De Silva, officials from the Ministry of Higher Education and members of the University Trade Union Joint Committee attended the meeting.
The university non-academic staff said although several rounds of discussions were held, the involved parties failed to reach a consensus.
Chairman of the University Trade Union Joint Committee, Edward Malwattage said if solutions are not provided to their demands within the day, they will refrain from all essential services in the coming days.
