Government Surveyors stage a protest on mismanaged tender procedure

COLOMBO (News 1st) -The Government Surveyors' Association staged a protest in Colombo today (March 16). 

The trade union action was in protest against a contract being awarded by the government to a US firm in violation of tender procedure.

The protest began at 8.30 this morning opposite the Fort Railway Station.

Police took measures to temporarily close the Lotus road as the protesters marched towards the Presidential Secretariat.

The protesters marched towards Temple Trees expecting to meet the Prime Minister. However, they were not able to meet the PM and held talks with J. Dadallage instead. Dadallage is the 

Public Relations Consultant of the Prime Minister and during their talks, he made a promise to the protesters in writing.

According to Duminda Udugoda, the Chairman of Government Surveyors' Association, the discussions were not successful.
