President Sirisena talks of a new programme for social media platforms

COLOMBO (News1st) - President Maithripala Sirisena has said, a new programme will be implemented in the coming weeks with regard to the proper use of social media platforms. The president made this statement when he met with Sri Lankans residing in Tokyo, Japan, last evening. President Sirisena also added that there is a great need to disregard and limit content posted on social media platforms that aims to destruct national unity and national security, as well as the publishing and circulation of hate speech and offensive content must be removed on all social media platforms. His Excellency went on to say, the restrictions imposed on social media platforms will be lifted in the coming days.
