The ban on the Facebook and several other social media was imposed on the 07th March following the unrest that took place recently.
Following the incident, 186 different Facebook accounts and several other Whatsapp accounts are to be investigated by the Cyber Crime Unit of the TRC for spreading false information during the unrest period.
The authorities will pay special attention as to how social media platforms should be allowed to use within the legal framework of the country. The government has already begun discussions with Facebook with regards to the investigations.
China and Germany have agreed to assist with the investigations and provide technical support to avoid the misuse of Facebook in a similar manner in future.
