COLOMBO (News 1st) – Several groups of youth attempted to carry out a silent protest against the continuous ban on Social Media in the country. However, they were informed by police that protests cannot be carried out during the still prevailing ‘state of emergency’.

Vimukthi Dushanth, a social media operator told the media that they understand the requirement to block social media, including Facebook, for 72 hours -given the recent turn of events.

However, he added, that continuing the restrictions is not acceptable when the problem remains the same and the people are deprived of their means of receiving and sharing information.
