President Sirisena to appoint committee to probe Kandy incidents

COLOMBO (News1st) - President Maithripala Sirisena has decided to appoint a Presidential Committee to investigate the incidents that were reported from several areas in the Kandy District. According to the President's Media Division, the committee will comprise three retired judges and they will be appointed in the coming days.

The Committee is tasked with investigating the following;

• The reasons that led to a situation of unrest
• Any violation of the law and regulations
• Assess damages caused to life and property
• The influences of any conspiratorial force
• Make recommendations to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

The Committee is expected to inquire the manner in which authorities acted to contain the situation and accountability.
