President's special statement on State of Emergency announced

COLOMBO (News 1^st) - President Maithripala Sirisena made a special statement to the nation today (March 6) following the promulgation of a State of Emergency to redress the unsatisfactory security situation prevailing in certain parts of the country. Damage and destruction of property, loss of lives, conflicts between religions and beliefs were listed as reasons why the President declared a state of emergency. Therefore the government will take actions to maintain peace and restore normalcy within a period of one week.
