Prince Mired Raad Zeid Al-Hussein arrives in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Special Envoy on the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, Prince Mired Raad Zeid Al-Hussein arrives in Sri Lanka on an official visit today (March 5). According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prince Zeid Al-Hussein will be in the country until the 7th of this month. The visit of the Special Envoy is of significance with Sri Lanka becoming the 163rd State to accede to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, on the 13th of December 2017. During his visit, Prince Zeid Al-Hussein is scheduled to call on President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thilak Marapana. Prince Zeid Al-Hussein is also scheduled to undertake a field visit in the Northern Province with Minister of Rehabilitation and Resettlement, D.M. Swaminathan and observe mine-clearance missions in the area. During the field visit, he will also meet with victims of Landmine explosions and representatives carrying out mine-clearance missions. The special envoy is also scheduled to hold discussions with the United Nation's Team in Sri Lanka, Civil Organisations and other parties on providing further relief to the victims of Land Mine explosions and mine-clearance missions. https://www.facebook.com/NewsfirstSL/videos/1864469880279928/
