Seventh-grader, Keith Simons planned to carry out a school shooting at an Ohio middle school but instead, shot himself inside the school bathroom last week, police said. The Jackson Township Police Department uncovered messages from February 14, the day of the Parkland school shooting, to February 20 on the Simons's phone detailing an eight-step plan of attack at Jackson Memorial Middle school. According to a news release from Jackson Police Chief Mark Brink, the Simons has written: “ I'd hurt and destroy something bigger but my schools an easy target.” The message Simons wrote said that he planned the shooting for weeks and wanted it to be “bigger than anything this country's (US) ever seen.” Police further stated that the Simons expressed an admiration for the Columbine shooters. The 13-year-old student died after shooting himself in the head on February 22. Police further mentioned that Simons has brought a .22 rifle to school that morning and was observed leaving a bathroom, holding the gun. A police report stated that “no evidence has been discovered to explain why (Keith Simons) changed his mind from shooting others at school. The school went on lockdown because f the incident, and students said they spent two to three hours hiding inside closets while parents waited outside the school.
