Joint loan schemes for SME’s to boost economy

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The officials of the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and the Heads of State Banks met President Maithripala Sirisena today (February 28). The agenda of the meeting was to discuss on joint loan scheme which was proposed by the National Economic Council. The National Economic Council has proposed 100 types of joint loan schemes for the benefit of Small and medium-sized enterprises. The President Sirisena instructed the officials of the Ministry of Finance to draft a report on the programme within two weeks. The proposed programme is due to be executed within months. At the meeting the president pointed out, State Bank should profit out of the proposed programme, which will lead to benefits of the public. The business community face lot of challenges in terms of terms and conditions when they require obtaining loans. He stressed that obtaining loans should not be difficult for Small and medium-sized entrepreneurs.
