Hambantota Principal's death: Two Education Ministry officials removed from posts

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Two officials from the Ministry of Education have been removed from their posts over the death of the Principal from the Suchi National School in Hambantota. The Principal died after attending a leadership program. The two officials were removed based on the recommendation made by the committee appointed by the subject minister. The two officials are the Director and Deputy Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Education. In addition, disciplinary action will be taken against eleven officials including two Additional Secretaries attached to the Ministry of Education. They are the Additional Secretary for School Affairs and the Additional Director of Procurement. The Ministry of Education says Disciplinary Action is to be taken against the Accountant of the Procurement Division and several others as well. The Human Resources Division which was under the purview of the Additional Secretary for School Affairs has been removed from his designated subjects, the Ministry of Education said. The committee had recommended to blacklist the institution that provided the leadership training, and to immediately provide compensation to the victims family.
