COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Government Analyst to the Police Headquarters has confirmed that the explosion which took place in a bus Kahagolla, Diyatalawa was triggered by a hand grenade.
According to Police Headquarters further investigations into the explosion are ongoing.A senior police official stated that two witnesses testified that the grenade exploded when an individual seated in the middle of a three-seat row stood up.
The investigations also reveal that the individual seated in the middle was an army officer.
It is further reported that the officer in question is currently receiving treatment, and will make a statement once he recovers.
Diyatalawa Hospital Director, Ranjith Amarakoon stated that nine others that were injured in the explosion are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
He further stated that two soldiers are currently receiving further treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.
