No major incidents were reported during the period of the Local Government Election. However incidents of violating election laws were reported. An unidentified group has assaulted the Polling Station Representative from the Podujana Peramuna with sharp weapons in Semrokwatte, Nawalapitiya. According to our correspondent in the area, the injured was admitted to the Nawalapitiya Base Hospital for abrasions. The injured described the attack  thus: Two individuals grabbed me and another attacked me with a sharp weapon. I hope a fair investigation would be conducted and justice be meted out for me. The hospital authorities made arrangements for the injured to vote while receiving treatment. Another incident was reported, this was an election card of an individual residing in Appalagoda in Watadeniya, Kandy which claims he is already deceased. He was allowed to cast his vote after the officers at the Polling Station located at the Watadeniya Vijayalanka Primary School verified his details. A long queue of voters was observed around 3.30 p.m.  at Zahira College in Weligama, Matara. According to our correspondent in the area, many were able to cast their votes before 4.00 p.m. Several incidents related to distribution of ballot papers and displaying the symbols of political parities were reported in the Puttalam district. This took place in a backdrop where campaigning has been banned during the period of the election. It was reported, by a letter bearing the signature of UPDA MP Dullas Alahapperuma, requesting people to vote for the United National Party was printed and distributed in Akuressa. Parliamentarian Dallas Alahapperuma has lodged a complaint at the Dickwella Police and investigations are underway. Deputy Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma continued his strike action opposite the Bulathsinhala Police for the second consecutive day today as no action was taken over the incident where one of his supporters was alleged to have been assaulted.
