Returning officers assigned as polls draw near

Over 75,000 public officials on election duty

COLOMBO (Newsfirst) - The National Election Commission says assistant returning officers will be dispatched from Colombo today, to various electorates across the country. Four-hundred officers will be assigned on duty. Over 75,000 public officials are due to be assigned on duty for the local government polls. Additional Elections Commissioner, M.M. Mohamed, said the officials are expected to report to the respective polling station tomorrow. He added, strict action will be taken against public officers who fail to perform duties assigned to them.
