SL team to leave for Abu Dhabi to commence investigations following Udayanga 's arrest

COLOMBO (News1st): A team consisting of seven members will leave for Abu Dhabi today, to proceed with the investigations regarding former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga, who has been arrested.

Issuing a communique, the Police Headquarters notes that the team consists of officers from the Police Financial Crimes Division, Criminal Investigations Department, Foreign Ministry, Attorney General's Department and the Department of Immigration and Emigration. This procedure is set to take place at diplomatic level and the team is scheduled to hold discussions with the relevant authorities. Udayanga Weeratunga was arrested  at the Dubai airport on Sunday upon a warrant issued for his arrest. He has been charged with financial misappropriation committed when purchasing MIG aircrafts to Sri Lanka from Ukraine. His passport was impounded in June last year, by Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne.
