COLOMBO (Newsfirst) - The non-academic staff of state universities have decided to launch a strike action today and tomorrow based on several demands.

Chairman of the University Trade Union Joint Committee, Edward Malwattage, said more than 15,000 non academic employees of fifteen state universities in the country, and all higher education institutes, run by the University Grants Commission (UGC), will join in this action. He added that they had resorted to the strike action as discussions with the subject minister and the chairman of the UGC had failed. In the meantime, the Open University of Sri Lanka notes that all academic activities scheduled for today and tomorrow will be cancelled.
