Govt bans polythene at forest reserves and world heritage sites

The government has decided to ban the use of polythene at Forest Reserves and World Heritage sites from tomorrow, February 4. This ban will be in effect for all forest reserves that come under the purview of the Forest Conservation Department and Wildlife Conservation Department. According to Conservator General of Forests, Anura Sathurusinghe, strict legal action will be taken against those who carry polythene and other unfavourable material to forest reserves. Furthermore, he noted that the belongings of the people visiting such locations will be subjected to a special search from tomorrow onwards. Polythene food wrappers, polythene bags and rigifoam food wrappers were banned from January 1.
