Two people have been killed and 17 injured in a high school shooting in the US state of Kentucky.

During a news conference, officials said the alleged shooter, a 15-year-old male student, was in custody and will be charged with murder and attempted murder.

Marshall County Attorney Jeff Edwards said it’s likely the suspect will be charged as an adult, but his name won’t be released unless he’s indicted.

The lone attacker was a student at the school who opened fire with a handgun in a common area before classes started, according to local media.
