Subject Minister, Mahinda Samarasinghe, promised that a group of employees will receive jobs, while the rest will receive compensation.
Four-hundred and thirty-eight employees of the Hambantota port, who lost their jobs, began a strike action on November 30, last year.
They began a hunger strike eleven days ago as they had not received solutions to their issues. Eighteen employees were hospitalised during the course of the hunger strike
The protesters decided to call off their hunger strike, following discussions with Subject Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe last evening
