Five underworld criminals are contesting in the upcoming Local Govt. Elections. Yes, you read that right -Five of them.
It gets better -According to the March 12th Movement, 45 more people who are connected to corruption and other crimes have come forward to contest.
The movement conducted a comprehensive study on the 56,066 candidates.
The Movement says that it has “reiterated to all political parties in the country to refrain from including tainted individuals into the nomination lists.”
Political parties had pledged the agreement on March 12, 2015 and it’s implementation.
Rohana Hettiarachchi, convener of the March 12th Movement said: “Sadly, what we see it the guidelines have been disregarded this time around. The Party Secretary may not be aware of this, but the electorate organizers are definitely aware.”
Can these people prove that they are suitable to be elected as public representatives?
