On the seventh day of the second phase of the Gammadda ‘Gamen Gamata – Wewen Wewata’ programme, attention fell on several wewas in  Bellankadawala Ellangawa.

The News1st teams were able to uncover  much information, on Thursday, January 11 and on Friday, January 12.

The Gammadda ‘Gamen Gamata – Wewen Wewata’ teams spoke to several farmers living around the wewas in the Bellankadawa area and Siyamabalagaswewa.

Since the wewas built for animals, identified as Kulu wewa in the upper Elanga system, are now in a dilapidated state, the farmers we spoke to, raised concerns regarding the increased threat they faced from wild animals.

Meanwhile, the bund of the Bulana wewa in the Ellanaga system is under threat of breaking off as a result of a leak.

Furthermore, the water could be seen leaking from the Pitawana or the spill of this particular wewa. According to the people living around the Tammanna Wewa, the bund of the wewa is facing a risk of breaking off since a spill was built without taking into consideration the opinion of the farmers.
