The Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau -Udaya Nanayakkara- has been asked to resign from his post.

Minister of Tourism, John Amaratunga has made the request, asking Nanayakkara to step down.

This matter was revealed in ‘The Island’ newspaper.

According to the newspaper report, the minister has attributed his decision to the government’s tourism restructuring program.

Nanayakkara was, according to The Island, unaware of the request.

Despite the said ‘restructuring program’, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, will remain in his current position.

Kavan Ratnayake, the SLTDA Chairman, is a sibling of Sagala Ratnayake, the Minister of Law and Order.

October 2017

Three months ago in 2017, media reports emerged that a delayed tourism promotional drive has been transferred to the Prime Minister’s office for quick implementation.

According to the reports, Minister of Tourism and Christian Affairs John Amaratunga had blamed the SLTPB for its failure to execute the mega tourism promotional drive and inability to meet the tourist target as envisaged.
