Director General of the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital, Dr. Susith Senaratne, stated that surgeries scheduled for today, January 8, will have to be canceled if nurses do not report to work.
Nurses of the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital refrained from work, in protest against the newly introduced fingerprint system.
While the authorities who implemented the system are of the view that this system will increase efficiency, trade unions say the fingerprint system is discriminates against the nursing staff.
However, according to Chaminda Rodrigo, Secretary to the Nurses Association, all staff will be required to use the system.
