The Central Environmental Authority states that the secretaries of the political parties will be notified in writing about the ban on the use of polythene for election propaganda activities and meetings in the upcoming election.
According to the Director of the Environmental Pollution Control Unit, Ajith Weerasundara, this decision was taken following the issuance of the gazette notification banning certain polythene products.
Furthermore, the Authority stated that information has already been received about the use of polythene for election propaganda.
Accordingly, the Central Environmental Authority stated that the relevant parties will be notified to remove them immediately.
He further added that legal action will be taken against those who ignore the ban on the use of polythene for election propaganda.
