Special discussion to be held as railway strike enters day seven

A special discussion will be held today, between members of the railway trade unions and the Cabinet sub-committees that was appointed yesterday, to clarify and come to a final decision in relation to their unresolved issues.

The President of the Cabinet Sub Committee, Minister Sarath Amunugama, said the discussion will be held today at 9.30 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Rail Drivers’ Association, Indika Dodangoda, said all the leaders of the railway trade unions engaged in the strike will take part in this discussion.

Today is the seventh day of the railway strike.

Eleven railway trade unions had initially engaged in the strike action whereas, members of seven unions reported to work yesterday.

Railway’s General Manager, Mahanama Abeykoon, said the service of the contract rail workers will be terminated if they do not report to work today.
