The raid unit of Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited successfully exposed a racket where substandard oil is being sold instead of furnace oil released by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
A raid was carried out after information revealed that a bowser transporting furnace oil from Kolonnawa to a factory in Horana was diverted to Kirimetiyagara, Kadawatha where the furnace oil is being replaced.
The racketeers replace the furnace oil with oil that is used and disposed by shipping lines.13,000 litres of furnace oil had thus been replaced.
Six people were arrested and handed over to Kadawatha Police for investigations.
