Earlier today (November 4), a group of people were reported missing after going to bathe in a Lake in Antonwala, Laggala.
Police say the group, which included eight people in total, fell victim to a sudden -strong current.
Five of the eight bodies have been recovered.
Police say the victims include two elderly women, a male and a child. Victims have been identified as residents of Wennapuwa, who arrived in the area on an excursion.
Police, area residents and Dambulla Life Guard unit have joined in on the ongoing search operations.
Meanwhile a Special Forces diving team and a Navy diving team is en-route to the location, said the Army Spokesperson Major General Roshan Seneviratne.
