Sri Lanka Cricket has had a poor run in One Day International matches in the last few series.
If you missed the today’s (October 23) ODI vs Pakistan, there is very bad news. The situation has gone from bad to worse.
The Sri Lankan squad were comprehensively beaten by Pakistan in the 5th and final ODI by 9 wickets in Sharjah.
As painful as it is, the 5-0 series defeat to Pakistan is Sri Lanka’s second consecutive ODI whitewash after having being beaten by India previously.
Skipper Upul Tharanga won the toss and elected to bat first.
Tharanga himself opened the attack with fresher Sadeera Samarawickrema.
It only took Pakistan 5 deliveries to dismiss Samarawickrema in the very first over, sending the debutante back for a duck by courtesy of Usman Khan.
Next up was Dinesh Chandimal, who also did not trouble the scorers as he was caught behind the very next delivery.
Skipper Upul Tharanga made eight while Niroshan Dickwella was undone for a duck.
Thisara Perera was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with 25.
The Pakistani bowling camp rampaged through the Lankan battick line-up.
Sri Lanka barely reached three figures on the team total, being wrapped up for 103 runs on the 27th over.
Playing only in his 2nd One Day International, Usman Khan ended with figures of 5 for 34 in 7 overs.
Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan shared 2 wickets a piece.
Pakistan were unphased in their chase as they reached their target in just 20.2 overs and losing only one wicket.
Imam-ul-Haq was unbeaten on 45 while Fakhar Zaman scored 48.
