The Met Department predicts that the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal to the North-east of the country is likely to develop further in to a depression and move away.
Cloudy conditions are expected to continue further and fairly strong winds can be expected over the country, and surrounding sea areas, during next few days.
The Department warns of showers and thundershowers at times in the Northern and North-central Provinces and in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts and that fairly heavy falls of about 75-100mm can be expected at some places.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western Provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts. There may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers.
The Met Department requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning activity.
