Sebastian Kurz was first elected to Austria’s parliament in September 2013. Three months later in December, he became the country’s foreign minister at 27 years of age.
Kurz was Austria’s youngest government minister. Ever. Adding up to that, he also became the youngest Foreign Minister in the world.
Then in May 2017, Kurz was elected party leader after the resignation of former Vice Chancellor Reinhold Mitterlehner.
Austria’s conservative People’s Party, led by Sebastian Kurz won the Austrian snap general election.
Four years after being elected into Austrian Parliament for the first time, the now 31 years old ‘Wonder Kid’ Kurz is poised to become Austria’s youngest ever leader and the world’s youngest national leader.
“I’m overwhelmed, I am happy, and I look forward to working for Austria.”
Sebastian Kurz began his political career in the Youth Wing of the People’s Party, which he chaired before moving on to serve on Vienna’s city council.
After becoming the youngest ever foreign minister in Europe, Kurz became the leader of the People’s Party in May 2017.
Kurz has gained himself a nickname – Wunderwuzzi – (Wonder Hotshot, roughly translated).
Sebastian Kurz has also been compared to world favorite young leaders like Emmanuel Macron of France and Justin Trudeau of Canada.
